The Women-are-Wonderful Effect

The Women-are-Wonderful Effect or “WAW” Effect is a phrase that comes from what was definitely the best book of 2010. Is There Anything Good About Men?: How Cultures Flourish by Exploiting Men was a book that a read closely and spend many videos on at my channel Chapin’s INFERNO. It’s very educational and I highly recommend it.

Actually though, Baumeister popularized the term but it appears that it was first coined in 1994. Here’s wikipedia on the subject:

The “women are wonderful” effect is the phenomenon found in psychological research which suggests that people associate more positive attributes with the general social category of women compared to men. This effect reflects an emotional bias toward women as a general case. The phrase was coined by Eagly & Mladinic (1994) after finding that both men and women participants tend to assign exceptionally positive traits to women (men are also viewed positively, though not quite as positively), with woman participants showing a far more pronounced bias. The authors supposed that the positive general evaluation of women might derive from the association between women and nurturing characteristics.

Yet what was most astounding about this entry was this passage,

For example, similar to Eagly, Mladinic & Otto (1991), the tasks could determine if people associated pleasant words (good, vacation, and paradise) with women, and unpleasant words (bad, slime and grief) with men. The results, which agreed with the “women are wonderful” effect, showed that while both women and men have more favorable views of women, women’s in-group biases were four times stronger than men’s. These studies also found that people automatically favored their mothers over their fathers, and associated male gender with violence or aggression.

That women have a in-group bias 4 times as strong as that of men is unquestionable! It’s something I have observed over and over again. This bias makes their neutrality very questionable when they are asked to resolve inter-sex disputes. They will always be suspicious of the man who is being accused of anything and will give credence to testimony that is supplied by females (regardless of their mental health).


Yet Is There Anything Good About Men is a real eye opener. Dr. Roy F. Baumeister is a professor of psychology at Florida State University and I do not envy his job in attempting to bring truth to the new generation–a generation that is constantly besieged by political correct ideology that makes them uniquely unprepared to deal with reality. Numerous young men ask me what books they should be studying and this is definitely one of them. Remember, rereading IS reading. I went through my copy twice.

Here’s what the Wall Street Journal had to say about it in a review:

Mr. Baumeister is less concerned about the wimpification of modern man than about the degree to which men have been historically “exploited.” The very cultures that men have built, he says, have considered males more “expendable” than women.

The expendability is reflected in wartime casualty rates, of course, but men also die more often in work-related accidents and die earlier, on average. Their energies are the motor for some bad things but also for a great deal of good, including the economic bustle and technological advance that we associate with progress.

But men, Mr. Baumeister says, are often taken for granted and denigrated as the bane of female existence, with some gender activist insisting that women would be better off without them. In a feisty rejoinder, Mr. Baumeister says that “if women really would have been happier without men,” they would have “set up shop” on their own long ago. “The historical record is overwhelming,” he adds. “Women stick around men.”

    Interesting that they are developing more subtle Clockwork Orange brainwashing procedures to reinforce this effect and prevent deviation

    I am about two hundred pages into this book. It is hard to put down. It breaks down how culture can be broken down by biology. Basically, men and women have different drives and levels of motivation. Very good.

      You are taking the Eagly, Mladinic & Otto (1991) finding out of context. People, in general, tend to be biased in favor of their groups (e.g., associating their group with positive characteristics). Women often favor other women, just like men often favor other men, and Whites often favor other Whites, etc.

        This research found that while both women and men have more favorable views of women, women’s in-group biases were 4.5 times stronger[1] than those of men and only women (not men) showed cognitive balance among in-group bias, identity, and self-esteem, revealing that men lack a mechanism that bolsters automatic own group preference.
