The Case Against Sugar PODCAST 109

The Case Against Sugar is a new book out by Gary Taubes.

I just bought it and think it’s something that a lot of men need to hear about. It’s a HUGE health issue.

Personally, my biggest addiction is to carbohydrates. I love them and am badly in need of detox. Books like this provide me with the proper motivation which is why I’m making it the focus of the 109th installment of the MOLON LABE Male Defender podcast.

From the best-selling author of Why We Get Fat, a groundbreaking, eye-opening exposé that makes the convincing case that sugar is the tobacco of the new millennium: backed by powerful lobbies, entrenched in our lives, and making us very sick. It’s The Case Against Sugar.

Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever; obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

And sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical society-wide, health-related problems. With his signature command of both science and straight talk, Gary Taubes delves into Americans’ history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup.

He explains what research has shown about our addiction to sweets. He clarifies the arguments against sugar, corrects misconceptions about the relationship between sugar and weight loss; and provides the perspective necessary to make informed decisions about sugar as individuals and as a society.

I used to ignore this, but now I think sugar (and lacking fat in your diet) is a BIG problem.

2 months ago I started no sugar/no grain (NSNG). Lost about 12 lbs and still going. Not 100, still have a beer and some pasta every once in a while, but it does work.

    Hi Bern,

Dr Ray Peat says that cancer has increased with more industrial oils = cotton oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, peanut oil, canola oil, walnuts…

The PolyUnsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA) stuffs up our cells’ ability to burn sugar, making us fatter, more diabetic, prematurely aged, etc.

Tropical vegetable fats like coconut & chocolate can slowly correct the PUFA issues, as these have more saturated fat = like the fat we make if we overeat fruit.

He also recommends dairy, fruit, coffee, aspirin, gelatine. Fruit has potassium and aspirin-like chemicals which help us burn the sugar.

Ray Peat reads hundreds of scientific studies from medical journals and summarises them. Often vested interests draw false conclusions from the studies.
